What will you do?

Are you ready to embark on an exciting journey with Target Australia's Stores Technology team? Our team is at the heart of delighting our customers and enhancing their shopping experience; and are transforming our stores with the power offered by AWS Cloud Technologies.  Initially focussing on our Point-of-Sale Systems across both staff-assisted POS and self-checkouts, we’ve also got some exciting work coming up with the rollout of RFID technologies to our stores.  Our team is at the heart of driving a seamless transaction experience for our customers.

As a Solution Architect, you will be the guiding force behind Target’s uplift to Cloud Program.  Your expertise will be at the heart of our new platform's performance, scalability, and resilience.  You will become a Subject Matter Expert for the groups future state technical architecture and provide the technology roadmap for our Engineers.


You'll also be doing the following:

  • Engaging with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to understand diverse perspectives and collaboratively design AWS solutions that address the unique needs of the business, as well as identifying opportunities for modernization, allowing for the migration of legacy applications to AWS.
  • Leading the charge in technical innovation and excellence, guiding the team towards technical greatness and designing solutions that not only meet current business requirements but are forward-thinking and adaptable for future needs.
  • Playing a key role in the design of solutions, development and rollout of  our upcoming RFID technologies.
  • Working with various technology teams across the organization, fostering effective communication and collaboration to ensure alignment of AWS solutions with broader technological strategies.
  • Acting as a bridge between technical teams and business stakeholders, translating technical jargon into business-friendly language and demonstrating how AWS solutions contribute to overall business success.

What are we looking for?

To be successful in this role you will have the following:

  • Certification in AWS Architecture, showcasing a comprehensive understanding of AWS services and best practices in cloud solution design.
  • Extensive experience in designing and implementing AWS solutions, particularly in the context of migrating legacy technologies to the cloud. Provide examples of successful outcomes and improvements in efficiency, scalability, and overall performance.
  • Deep knowledge of retail environments, including Point of Sale (POS) systems, and a clear understanding of the technological challenges and opportunities within the retail industry.
  • Proven ability to design robust and scalable solutions that go beyond immediate business needs, ensuring adaptability to future requirements and advancements in cloud technology. Showcase architectures that align with long-term business goals for sustainable growth and innovation.
  • Strong collaboration skills, demonstrating the ability to engage effectively with diverse technology teams across the organization. Provide examples of successful collaboration in integrating AWS solutions into existing technology ecosystems.
  • Proactive and innovative problem-solving skills, particularly in navigating challenges associated with legacy technology migration. Showcase instances where creative solutions were employed for a seamless transition to the cloud.
  • Excellent communication skills, both technical and non-technical, to articulate complex AWS architecture concepts clearly. Past experience in engaging with business stakeholders, translating technical requirements into business language, and building consensus on the strategic value of AWS solutions.
