What will you do?

 

 

As the Social Media Manager your primary focus is in providing management, advice and execution of all activity across social channels as well as tactical communication advice and support to the Target Australia business. Work closely with Head of Brand and Marketing Strategy to implement PR programs and campaigns that promote and protect the reputation of Target Australia.
Working collaboratively with Marketing Leadership team, Corporate Affairs, Merchandise, Design, Online, Store Operations and other key business stakeholders to create and execute social media strategies that support the brand, marketing, category, campaign, or product stories (in line with approved strategies and business objectives) is essential. Support management of the Target Influencer program and development of social media strategy and programs . Produce and circulate post implementation assessments as relevant (focused on metrics of success and key learnings).

 

Responsibilities include, but not limited:

 

  • Strategise & Execute: Work closely with the Head of Brand and Marketing Strategy to deliver impactful PR campaigns and events that enhance and protect Target Australia’s reputation. Work closely with the social media Agency to implement social media strategy and proactively identify ways to amplify earned content across Target channels.
  • Collaborate & Create: Partner with cross-functional teams—Marketing, Corporate Affairs, Merchandise, Design, Online, and Store Operations—to develop and execute PR initiatives that align with business objectives.
  • Produce Engaging Content: Craft on-brand editorial material, including media releases, feature stories, presentations, blog posts, and video content. Work with the team to build out a strong calendar of content that delivers key brand and sale messaging in a compelling way. Social media monitoring, listening and reporting to ensure a deep understanding of the Target brand and our competitors
  • Build Media Relationships: Develop compelling story angles, work with our agencies to pitch to media outlets, manage product placement, and coordinate PR events.
  • Influence & Engage: Support the Target Influencer Program and develop innovative organic social media strategies to drive engagement and brand loyalty.

 

 

What are we looking for?

 

The ideal candidate will have minimum five years’ experience working in complex business with a dispersed workforce – sectors such as retail would be an advantage. Experience in providing sound reputation advice to key stakeholders in the business – not just at senior management level – all levels. Demonstrated experience in creating social media initiatives and/or community management (in current and emerging programs). Risk management assessment / issues management experience and excellent stakeholder management skills particularly with external audiences such as key media and bloggers is essential.

 

The ideal person will have the following knowledge, skills and qualifications:

 

  • Passionate about customers and the brand
  • Proven experience in PR, events, and social media management, preferably within a retail or consumer-focused industry.
  • Exceptional writing and content creation skills with the ability to tailor messages for diverse audiences.
  • Strong project management and organisational skills to juggle multiple campaigns and events simultaneously.
  • A collaborative mindset to work seamlessly with internal teams and external partners.
  • A creative thinker who can craft compelling narratives and engaging storylines to bring the Target brand to life.
  • Strong organisational skills, ability to meet all deadlines within budget and compile results/focus on learnings for future programs
  • Works extremely well under pressure
