What will you do?

Are you ready to embark on an exciting journey with Target Australia's Stores Technology team? Our team is at the heart of delighting our customers and enhancing their shopping experience; and are transforming our stores with the power offered by AWS Cloud Technologies.  Initially focussing on our Point-of-Sale Systems across both staff-assisted POS and self-checkouts, we’ve also got some exciting work coming up with the rollout of RFID technologies to our stores.  Our team is at the heart of driving a seamless transaction experience for our customers.

As Software Engineer, you will work within cross-functional teams with responsibilities extend from designing and developing robust software solutions to maintaining and optimizing existing systems that keep our stores operating.  This role is dynamic, involving the application of cutting-edge technologies, adherence to coding best practices, and collaboration with diverse stakeholders. In this fast-paced retail environment, your skills and creativity as a Software Engineer are essential in shaping the technological foundation of our stores to create a better environment for our staff and customers.

You'll also be doing the following:

  • Analysing and interrogating user stories to develop innovative systems tailored for use in Target Australia stores, ensuring a user-centric approach to software design and functionality.
  • Contributing to projects focused on migrating legacy systems into AWS-based cloud environments, leveraging your expertise in cloud technologies to enhance system scalability, security, and overall performance.
  • Developing solutions that support both assisted check-out and self-service functionalities, catering to diverse customer preferences and enhancing the overall shopping experience.
  • Collaborating within agile delivery environments, participating in iterative development cycles, and adapting quickly to changing project requirements, ensuring efficient and timely delivery of high-quality software solutions.
  • Managing DevOps Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) processes to streamline software delivery pipelines, fostering a culture of automation, collaboration, and rapid iteration in software development.

What are we looking for?

To be successful in this role you will have the following:

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in Object-Oriented Software Development, with a strong preference for proficiency in Python, showcasing your depth of knowledge and expertise in this programming language.
  • Proven track record as a Full Stack developer, demonstrating expertise in JavaScript and ideally possessing experience with React and Node JS, contributing to the development of both front-end and back-end components of software applications.
  • Demonstrated experience working with AWS technologies, particularly DynamoDB, Lambda, and EC2, showcasing your ability to architect, implement, and optimize solutions within the AWS ecosystem.
  • Strong communication abilities, enabling effective collaboration with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and the articulation of complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Experience working in Agile environments, highlighting your adaptability, collaborative mindset, and ability to thrive in iterative development cycles, contributing to the overall efficiency and success of the software engineering team.
