What will you do?

 

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Category Buyer - Furniture, Storage and Pets.


Reporting to the Business Manager the Category Buyer is responsible for building and trading the category to deliver the strategy, vision and financial KPI’s.  Through developing strong relationships with suppliers and stakeholders they will influence the direction of the category.  They work collaboratively with key stakeholders to build assortment plans to drive sales and profitability, in line with Target’s values.

 

Other responsibilities will include:

 

Range Building – execute the end-to-end critical path, translate customer insights, and market trend into architecture and option plan, work collaboratively with the Planner to ensure option framework  and achieves financial KPI’s, and briefs design team on option framework.


Trade - identify opportunities and implement actions derived through trade analysis, and leverage customer insights and data to optimise sales.


Supplier relationship management – actively identify and onboard new supplier partners that will deliver on our quality, design and operational capability criteria.  Ongoing positive management of these relationships is vital to our success  

 

 Customer Insights and market knowledge: 
•    Knowledge of the Target customer and position in market
•    Source, analyse and understand customer insights and market data
•    Develop business cases and contracts to support new partnership and contract negotiations.
•    Product ROS accountability/improvement which supports the category financial plan

Go to Market
•    Collaborate with the GTM on trade and category priorities 
•    Identify trading terms and income recovery solutions

Trade & Strategy
•    Work collaboratively with the Planner to develop effective merchandise plans.
•    Applies commercial acumen to understand business performance and identify required actions in collaboration with the planner
•    Leverage customer insights and data to optimise sales. 
•    Actively reviews weekly sales analysis, quarterly hindsight’s to deliver financial KPI’s
•    Drive sales for the category through strong vendor/supplier discussions, strategies and agreements, and day-to-day operations

What are we looking for?

 

The ideal candidate will have a tertiary qualification in Commerce, Business or Retail with at least 4 years’ experience in Buying / Design / Product Development in a specialty retail environment.  Demonstrated ability to lead a supplier and sourcing strategy is essential as is experience in implementing merchandise strategy and trading business within season along with solid understanding of the total retail landscape and excellent stakeholder engagement skills.

Experience digital/online buying experience as Target accelerates our digital strategy would be highly advantageous.
