We're looking for a Buying Assistant to join our Target Womenswear team, supporting our Denim and Casual Cut & Sew categories.

 

This is an exciting opportunity to help shape products that our customers wear every day while gaining exposure to the end-to-end buying process within one of Australia's most loved retailers.

 

As a Buying Assistant, you'll play a key role in supporting the Buyer to deliver commercially successful ranges that balance trend, quality and value. Working closely with Buying, Planning, Design, Sourcing and supplier partners, you'll help bring seasonal product ranges to life, ensuring products are delivered on time, accurately executed and aligned to our customer strategy.

 

What You'll Be Doing

 

  • Support the Buyer in developing and trading the Womenswear Denim and Casual Cut & Sew categories to deliver sales, profit and customer outcomes.
  • Coordinate product registration, maintenance and administration activities across merchandise systems.
  • Manage style registrations, product approvals and data updates throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Support suppliers and sourcing partners to ensure key milestones and critical path deadlines are achieved.
  • Prepare product samples for range reviews, trade meetings and key stakeholder presentations.
  • Coordinate samples for marketing campaigns, social media content and advertising requirements.
  • Support the Buyer in conducting competitor shops, trend research and market analysis to identify opportunities and customer insights.
  • Support pricing, promotional execution and in-season trading activities.
  • Liaise with stores, suppliers and cross-functional teams to resolve merchandise queries and ensure product delivery.
  • Build strong partnerships with Buying, Planning and Design teams to deliver compelling product ranges for our customers.

 

To Be Successful in This Role, You’ll Have

 

  • Previous experience in a Buying Assistant, merchandise administration or similar retail support role.
  • A passion for fashion, with an interest in womenswear, denim and casual apparel.
  • Excellent time management, organisational and prioritisation skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build effective stakeholder relationships.
  • Confidence working with and interpreting data, supported by strong numerical, analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • A proactive, commercially minded approach with strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn.
  • Previous experience in fashion retail, buying or merchandising will be highly regarded.
